teamuncool fashion likes adidas Originals A.039 Fall/Winter 2010

A.039, the internal code used within adidas for adidas Originals releases its Fall/Winter 2010 look book. The menswear features a very relaxed attire, with strong sports references thrown into a somewhat modern mix. The A.039 pocket is pretty cool branding wise, slightly off centre logo- and would do anyone’s wardrobe justice.

Team Uncool Loves: Chanel Faux-Fur 2010 on Kristen Mcmenamy in Dazed 88

After reading the new Dazed issue this month (88), I came accross the shoot with Kristen Mcmenamy shot by Tierney Gearon. What really sparked my interest was the shot with her wearing the Faux-Fur pants and Jacket by Chanel. This was an amazing way of shooting the Karl Lagerfeld creation. If anyone can make strange look amazing, its definately Kristen Mcmenamy.

teamuncool fashion loves The Original Hipster by Julia Chesky

Parson School graduate Julia Chesky presents a fantastic series of photographs, entitled “The Original Hipster”. She shot the series with art director Ali Lee and homeless model Chris.

“Our lovely model, Chris, has lived on Mercer Street for a few decades by choice. I’m calling this series The Original Hipster because on most days he doesn’t even look like he’s truly homeless.“

Team Uncool Likes: Designer Kepi Mngomezulu'z new range

I have worked with Kepi for years and originally met him when shooting the Smarteez collective in Soweto. He has recently finished his new range and launched a blog for his thoughts and work. I think he is one of the future progressive thinkers and creators of the South African fashion.

Follow him and see everything unwind.

His new range was photographed by London College of Fashion Honors Student, Jonty Zeller.

Team Uncool Loves: Baloji (DRC)

LE JOUR D'APRES / SIKU YA BAADAYE (INDEPENDANCE CHA-CHA) from BALOJI on Vimeo.

A few months ago I found a musician based in the DRC called Baloji. His music videos amaze me with their great art direction and true African style.

Here is the next installment with his second video, to the song Le Jour D'Apres (Independence Cha-Cha)

The Retro suits and washed out colors really make me miss home too!

Team Uncool Loves: Retro Super Future (Italy)

Met some guys in Barcelona from Milan the other day who design and own the brand Retro Super Future an amazing Sunglass brand from Milano. For me the brand is stronger and more durable than Ray Ban sunglasses and they offer more diversity to the classic old wayfarer style.

Playing with thick frame retro styles, they have made bulkier more modern variations.

They recently launched the new Andrea model, which looks similar to the classic Ray Ban Clumasters but with a more new age design edge.

All their sunglasses have Zeiss optics which makes them even more appealing.

The Sunglasses are available online in Europe on their website and in South Africa through Astore.

teamuncool fashion likes Vans Era Medallion

Here is a great interpretation of the Vans Era, with a more formal touch provided with the brogue motif on the toe and heel. This black version completes the desired look and would make for a great addition to anyone’s collection.

team uncool likes: Fred Perry x Liberty Jacket

While looking around in Paris again, I popped into one of the Fred Perry stores and found a jacket which was perfect for fall and going into winter. I think it could even work open in summer. I love black canvas so, this one is great and has an amazing classic fit. Selling for 175 pounds or 225 Euro. I cant quiet seem to find a retailer in South Africa who sells the brand. If someone knows one please comment on the blog.

Fred Perry designed this new special edition range in collaboration with classic English brand, Liberty.

Team Uncool Loves: I like my style magazine

Did a little magazine shopping while in Paris last week and came accross a fairly new magazine called 'I like my style magazine'. Its supposedly the first user generated fashion magazine in the world.

It was a fantastic read, a sort of blog on paper.

The I like fashion network is also super interesting with a large database of whats happening and it allows people to submit there work which later gets put on the site and then transferred into the magazine for people on the streets to peruse.

Team Uncool Likes: Photography by Khuong Nguyen (Paris)

Spending some time in Paris this weekend I had the pleasure to meet the young and very talented surrealistic photographer Khuong Nguyen. His work for Louboutin (Winter Tales) is incredible and the pain staking attention to detail put into his work is worth writing about.

teamuncool fashion loves Gaultier Does Lingerie

Gaultier Does Lingerie

Having already corseted phallic objects like champagne and perfume bottles, to say nothing of Madonna circa her Blonde Ambition days, you’d think Jean Paul Gaultier would have designed lingerie by now. Well, it seems our panties can unbunch a bit, knowing that JPG has finally launched his first unmentionables collection, slated to hit stores in November. In the meantime, the ever-kinky designer will offer us a tease next week, when two limited-edition pieces will have their coming out at his couture show.

Created in partnership with La Perla, the 27-style line of mostly handmade bras and knickers will also include a waist-cincher and bra modeled after those worn by Madge in her early-90s, chola Marilyn Monroe phase. The new titty holster is actually rather demure, vaguely reminiscent of the paper umbrellas found in fruity vacation cocktails. Fitting, perhaps, since after enough drinks it'll go straight to the hotel room floor.

teamuncool fashion likes designer Phuong Thuy Nguyen

Knitting really seems to increase a lot in the fashion industry. Hungary based designer Phuong Thuy Nguyen is one of the designers who's really seizing this craft and is able to take knitting to a whole other level. He spreads thick hanks of wool on the floor and knits these strange creations reminiscent of giant insects or exotic flowers, using the three primary colours, red, blue and yellow. The hand knitted shapes seem a little awkward but comfortable at the same time.

teamuncoolfashion likes: Nike x Tank N98 Jacket

Paying homage to the original track jacket that Nike designed for the 1998 Brazil football squad, the N98 Jacket has been chosen as the focus piece to play out Nike x Tank’s most recent project. Teaming up with 6 of the UK’s most exciting young fashion designers and sporting figures today, Nike and Tank magazine have teamed them up and produced 6 different jackets, each as individual as their muses and has brought back much modernity and current aesthetics into the “National 1998″jacket which is so rich in sport heritage. A wonderful play between sports functionality and fashion aesthetics.
